Abstract
This session is aimed primarily at teachers and course designers of adult language classes, but is also useful for learners. It consists of a presentation on theories of vocabulary learning with a particular focus on memorising (mainly rooted in semantic elaboration and semantic field theory), together with ideas from motivation and self-determination theories. Its aim is to enable attendees to reflect on their existing methods of vocabulary teaching or learning in the light of these theoretical perspective on how we store vocabulary in our memory.
