Abstract

Immune activation and inflammation are essential in the development of vascular dysfunction and atherothrombosis. As we understand that inflammation plays a key role in the pathogenesis of vascular dysfunction and atherosclerosis, it is becoming essential to transform this knowledge to practical use in targeting vascular inflammation. This may be used in diagnosis of high-risk dysfunctional vascular lesions as well as therapeutically. Both systemic and local inflammations can be used in patient stratification and diagnosis as well as targeted therapeutically. The best methods of immune targeting in vascular disease are yet to be defined.
