Abstract

Studies have shown that very high transmission data rate (up to 480 Mb/s) with a theoretical channel capacity as high as gigabits per second can be achieved over low-voltage indoor powerline cables using WiMedia Multiband-OFDM standard for wireless UWB communication [6]. A demonstration system needs to be developed to test the applicability of this idea. Of the shelf Multiband-OFDM UWB kits can be used for this purpose. However, design of up-converter and down-converter circuits is a challenging task to match the frequency of operation of the Multiband-OFDM UWB Evaluation Kit and the powerline channel. This paper presents a novel design of frequency up-converter and down-converter circuits to be used in the demonstration system capable of transmitting a very high data rate signal over the low-voltage powerline cables.
