Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic is a communist conspiracy whose aim it is to gain control over the world and to make it impossible for human beings to work and to be free, argues Brazilian Foreign Secretary Ernesto Araúju in his official, government statement, which has been widely disseminated by the Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro calls on Brazilian citizens to defy the orders to keep social distancing, to go to work normally and to rebel against the lock-down in the country. Is the revolution of the populist extreme right-wingers like Bolsonaro, Trump, Orbán, Duterte or the former Czech President Václav Klas the result of the fact that the extreme right wingers and there supporters on the social media are too lazy to think? And if we are to survive, will we have to modify democracy in the age of social networks, demanding that only people who do not fall for fake news should be having the right to vote? These are the topics discussed in this interview conducted by Jan Čulík with Brazilian journalist and sociologist Fabiano Golgo, who now lives and works in the Czech Republic. The interview was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 24th April 2020.
