Abstract

"Art for me is not a pre-existing judgment. Art is not a construction, it is a discovery." The internationally well-known graphic artist Jiří David has recently opened a remarkable exhibition of his work in the DOX Gallery in Prague. Recently he was featured at the Venice Biennale. Yet he has just been sacked from his post as Professor at the Prague Academy of Arts. It looks as though the reason was that he objected towards ideologisation and stereotypisation of art. Jan Čulík talks to him about the meaning and role of art in this interview, which was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from Friday 31st January 2020.
