Abstract

The exhibition showcased research findings from my ongoing major research project 'Louise Jopling (1843–1933),' a leading portrait and genre artist in Victorian London. All the works exhibited were drawn from private collections, including a number of drawings that had never been exhibited before and rare archival material. The exhibition presented snapshot moments from a key period in her career (c. 1877-1900), supporting project aims to deliver the first comprehensive account of Jopling’s life and career and greater understanding of the context in which female artists operated in late 19th-century Britain.
