Search for phi mesons in tau lepton decay

Abstract

We report results from a direct search for τ − → φ h − ν τ ( h − = π − or K − ) using 3.1 fb − 1 of data collected with the CLEO II detector. We find model-dependent upper limits on the branching fractions in the range B ( τ − → φ π − ν τ ) < ( 1.2 − 2 . 0 ) × 10 − 4 and B ( τ − → φ K − ν τ ) < ( 5.4 − 6 . 7 ) × 10 − 5 at 90% confidence level.
