Abstract

This paper presents a novel virtual reference (RD) based narrowband time-of-arrival (TOA) localization scheme that utilizes both the line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) paths to localize the unknown mobile device (MD) according to the prior knowledge of the floor plane information of the specific indoor environment. It addresses the problem of insufficient number of LOS RD in conventional localization schemes in multipath environment due to LOS blockage by scatterers. The first step involves the estimation of data association matrix used to solve the issue of unknown observation-to-path correspondence by using least square (LS) estimator. In the second step, the location of MD is estimated through weighted least square (WLS) with the help of data association matrix. Analysis of the effects of various parameters on localization accuracy is proposed. Estimation results based on measurement data with various bandwidth show that the performance of our proposed algorithm improves the location accuracy as compared with existing localization scheme.
