Abstract
Czech documentary film makers Zuzana Piussi and Vít Janeček have just completed their new documentary, made for Czech public service television, Univerzity a svoboda (The Universities and Freedom). In this interview, Jan Čulík and Zuzana Piussi discuss the main issues dealt with in this documentary, the relentless managerialisation of the universities, a problem which seems to afflict primarily US and UK universities, and the impact of the managerial approach on the system of private universities which arose in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia after 1989 and which basically boils down to seeling fraudulent degrees for large student feels. The interview includes clips from the documentary Univerzity a svoboda, which was premiered in Prague on 21st May, 2019. The interview was broadcast on the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 17th May 2019.
