Abstract

This essay is the culmination of research into the artistic practice of Scott Myles that began in 2011. It was commissioned by Dr Clare Finburgh as guest editor of the French journal Théâtre/Public where it appears in a special issue on performance and situationism. The essay considers Myles's repeated citations of the SI as exemplary of the complex negotiations with the SI's antagonism to work and artworks alike, and as a creative response to Guy Debord's injunction in The Society of the Spectacle that art should be both realised and destroyed,
