Abstract

I curated this exhibition at The Hunterian as part of Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art 2018 (G.I.). It comprised a selection of more than 60 photographs, three short artist's films, and a range of archival material, all of which represented the remarkable, pioneering oeuvre of German artist and filmmaker Ulrike Ottinger (b. 1942). The exhibition, the first retrospective of Ottinger's work to be staged in the UK, was accompanied by a programme of film screenings that took place during GI and showed six of Ottinger's feature films. 'Still Moving' was further enhanced by a supporting programme of events, including an 'in conversation' with myself and the artist hosted by the Goethe Institut, and a series of 'Mobilisations' conceived and delivered by a group of students from the Masters in Curatorial Practice cohort. The exhibition was well received by visitors and by the press, including notices in Frieze, Vogue, The Guardian, the Contemporary Art Society digest, and The List. An interview with Ottinger about the exhibition was published in Mousse magazine, a key journal of contemporary art.
