Abstract

Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights deals with the right to liberty and security of person. Significant changes have been made to the penal legislation of State Parties to the Convention as a result of the protection offered by Article 5 and the case-law developed under it. This article of the Convention has proved to be of great influence in safeguarding the personal liberteies of people deprived of their freedom.
