Abstract

In this work, an energy efficient opportunistic scheduling scheme is presented for a multi-user wireless system. Provision of quality of service(QoS) with varying parameters is a fundamental requirement for the modern wireless networks. The scheme uses the channel statistics to schedule a set of users opportunistically such that each user is scheduled before the hard deadline. Every user performs scheduling decision selfishly. As the user comes close to the deadline, the threshold for transmission is decreased in proportion to the time slots left before the deadline is approached. The scheme is analyzed by assuming the constant arrivals and same deadline requirement for all the packets. The algorithm is also discussed for variable deadline constraints for different packets. The results demonstrate the energy-delay tradeoff for a deadline constraint multiuser system. An energy efficient solution is provided for a multi– user environment where users have different quality of service (QoS) requirements in terms of deadline constraints.
