Abstract
EOST (European Oral Singing Traditions) is an international European project and as part of the Ceòlas EOST project research into song has been carried out and song classes have been delivered so that they may spark an increase interest in Gaelic song traditions in Uist. The singers and the bards who composed the songs are at the forefront here, however. Songs from Uist, or songs that were in the Uist repertoire, were chosen to give an overview of the Gaelic song traditions of Uist. Singers who we don’t hear often enough were asked to perform and it is hoped that one of the legacies of the project will be increased opportunities to sing and perform the songs.
