Abstract

A two-dimensional (2D) particle code capable of modeling self-consistently an avalanche from the first ion-electron pair up to streamer conditions is presented. Results from this code demonstrate that the initial conditions usually adopted for fluid models of streamer discharges are unrealistic because of their neglect of the self-field.
