Abstract

Background: Regular HIV-1 viral load monitoring is standard of care in the developed world for patients infected with HIV-1. Objectives: Here we report a comparative evaluation of the established Roche COBAS AmpliPrep/COBAS TaqMan HIV-1 v2.0 test (Roche Diagnostics Ltd, Burgess Hill, UK) and the new artus HIV-1 QS-RGQ test (QIAGEN Ltd, Crawley, UK). Study design: 169 clinical EDTA-plasma samples were tested, all of known HIV-1 subtype. Results: The mean overall log10 c/ml difference was 0.10 (QIAGEN – Roche). Conclusion: The artus HIV-1 QS-RGQ test compared well with the Roche TaqMan HIV-1 v2.0 test, and Bland–Altman analysis showed good agreement between the two systems across a wide range of subtypes.
