Abstract

This paper explores restriction as a form of anti-consumption within the mundane consumption context of Facebook. Enhancing theoretical subtlety we show restriction to be more wide-ranging than currently acknowledged occurring not only when complete anti-consumption is impossible but also when undesired. Within restriction anti-consumption discourses co-exist alongside continued consumption.
