Abstract
The article offers a comparative analysis of the methods of representing Polish economic migrants who arrived in Great Britain after 2004 in selected aspects of the Polish TV series 'Londynczycy' (2009) and the 'Homesick' episode of 'Taggart' (2008). It employs Spivak's concept of 'subaltern subjectivity' to the status of the Polish migrants in both works. It concludes that the Polish characters in 'Londynczy' act and can speak and be heard albeit within a historical vacuum, without any wider context for their experience. By contrast, in 'Homesick', a broader historical context is presented, but the genuinely Polish characters are continually mediated by English-speakers.
