Abstract
Water quality assessment is carried out in a spatiotemporal framework, following guidelines and procedures described by regulations such as the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) (2000) and the US Clean Water Act (1972, and those that follow). This assessment presents a number of statistical challenges, some of which are highlighted in this article.
