Abstract

A series of public performances and events, culminating in the installation of three linked ‘permanent’, ‘public’ artworks on and around the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow, July 2015 – January 2016. The project was commissioned by Scottish Canals, Scottish Waterways Trust and Glasgow Sculpture Studios and was a collaboration between artists, Minty Donald, Neil McGuire and Nick Millar. THEN/NOW explores the potential of public art to engage critically with ideas and practices of heritage and ecology within a more-than-human framework. It aims to manifest conceptions of place as multiple and temporal, unsettling definitions of permanence and ephemerality, specifically in relation to public art practice and commissioning.
