Abstract
Words on the Streets are These (2001) is an installation for audience participation and computer. It was developed for the Instal festival in Glasgow in 2001 and was later realised at Tisch School for the Arts, NYC 2004. It comprises a live interactive soundscape, built from a library of source sounds recorded on the streets of Glasgow between 2000 and 2001, which are then subjected to various treatments (filtering, looping etc) in Pure Data. The PD patches are controlled from a MIDI controller to which the participants or audience have access and on which they are invited to play. As such the piece becomes a live audience remix of the Glasgow soundscape.
