Abstract

Four site-responsive artworks made for the Britannia Panopticon, Glasgow, a building where a semi-derelict nineteenth century music hall sits above a contemporary functioning amusement arcade on one of the city’s main shopping streets. The artworks engaged with the building as a site of multiple, overlapping and competing narratives, which wears the evidence of its changing functions and fortunes in its crumbling fabric. Glimmers in Limbo: Britannia Panopticon was made as the culmination of an AHRC Fellowship in the Creative and Performing Arts, in October 2007. It was one of two major suites of work made for contrasting but complementary sites in Glasgow, which constituted the Glimmers in Limbo project.
